Introducing: Nick Tester

Nick Tester is a well respected coach of both cricket and football, who has worked in sports coaching and consultancy for 20 years. In cricket, having started working as an Essex CCC youth coach from a young age, Nick has, in his time, been made Head of Cricket in two schools, and has worked with several young players who have gone on to make careers out of the sport. Nick has worked in and around some of the best cricketers in English cricket, and is the founder and Managing Director of PRC Elite

"As well as offering individual sessions both remotely and in an outdoor one to one setting, I am delighted to be able to offer this cricket coaching and consultancy service to a small group of players per month. It will be a totally bespoke experience for each player which will help each to develop their game.

"I have been approached by several families who have been searching for a way for their sons and daughters to keep advancing their cricket at a developed level, and, having worked with several young players remotely using this system already, I have been excited by the way in which those players have progressed so quickly!

"I’m really looking forward to working with each player in a focused, bespoke manner, creating programmes and sessions based on the video analysis system, whilst also offering one to one programmes outdoors. Please do get in touch if you have any questions.

How it works

Finlay McCreath

Nick Tester is one of the most enthusiastic and positive coaches that I have worked with in my career so far. His knowledge of the game is exceptional and his willingness to improve me as a cricketer, and as a person, was invaluable. Nick’s attitude was inspirational, someone who always made the extra effort to help me, and others he coached. You can see how much he loves the game, as well as helping others improve and the way in which he achieved this for me is something I am most grateful for.

Having first met Nick in September 2019, it quickly became apparent how dedicated and professional he was, not only in his role as a coach but also in his work as an analyst. Having worked with numerous coaches and analysts over my years involved in cricket, the commitment and knowledge Nick possesses and the passion he has to make every individual better is so clear. Whether you are new to the game or at a professional level you are treated with the same respect and expertise. The amount of knowledge I have been able to gain from Nick personally so early on in my coaching career has been massive, particularly the relevance of small changes such as an individual’s grip or set up to an overall outcome.

During this challenging time of switching to virtual learning, Nick has dedicated more time than any to ensure he still provides quality sessions to individuals through video analysis. His lounge has become a set up like no other, not only does he provide analysis on videos sent in by the kids, but he also demonstrates the drills that will help them master these skills through a live feed. A service he’s not just providing to some of those he teaches but every single one. Without a doubt if I was their age again I’d love to have a coach like Nick, his passion and determination to make everyone that bit better in whatever way is something to be admired.

I’ve had the pleasure to work with Nick in the cricket world for the last fifteen years, and have not seen many better youth coaches and practitioners than him. His knowledge of developing excellence and how to structure sessions allows youngsters to develop and reach the best possible standard that they can. His infectious care and passion for young people is great to behold, and any school would be sensible to use his knowledge to help their own programmes.

I first met Nick at the age of 14. His guidance and advice played a key role in pushing my standards as a junior cricketer, with 1st team opportunities at an early stage helping me to get into the England Development Programme at 16 years old. He invested more time with me than anyone to help me to achieve my goals with the EDP through to U19 level. Nick’s best attribute is his passion for sport - always creatively finding ways to make training challenging, interesting, and immensely enjoyable, demonstrating his unmatched desire to be the best.

Nick was the driving force behind me joining Ardingly College in year 7, where he then coached me for many years after. His enthusiasm and love for sports was a key factor in me instantly getting on with him off the pitch, and us working well together on it. His passion and knowledge gave a perfect balance to his sessions making them both enjoyable and valuable at the same time, meaning that after most sessions you had learnt something, improved your game and had fun doing so.

He also knew when to use comedy and when to encourage me more directly to try and get the best out of me, which looking back on the time he coached me, showed that he had a great set of man management skills alongside his knowledge of sports. This inevitably meant that he could extract the best efforts and performances of those he coached and this was particularly noticeable as he brought great teams together by bonding them and coaching them well, allowing them to succeed more often than not, with many teams led by him at the college winning trophies and tournaments. Not only has he been a great coach for me and helped me massively to get where I am today, but he is still a great friend that is keen to stay in contact and support me in any way possible. This is why he was a great man to have coach and guide me for many important years in my progression in sports.

Nick Tester is simply one of the best cricket coaches I have had the opportunity to work with. He has a great ability to listen and understand what areas need developing and is then able to translate this into an action plan. These plans are well communicated, have clear progression and coached in an enjoyable and friendly environment. Above all he ensures that fun is at the core of everything. Nothing is ever too much and he will always go the extra mile for you. He is not only a coach and mentor, but someone I can trust!

I hope you have the chance to meet and work with him!

Michael Powell

Nick's knowledge and expertise in working with young players is as good as anyone I have seen in the game. His infectious personality, coupled with his detailed knowledge of the game, means we are delighted to have him working with us at Rugby School. Having been a County Captain, and U19 coach at County level, I cannot recommend Nick highly enough!

Michael Powell | Former captain of Warwickshire CCC and England A, Director of Cricket, Rugby School

Nick is passionate developmental coach with a unique skill of making himself feel more like a mentor to those he helps and supports.

I have had the good fortune to experience Nicks work with both individuals and groups.

Those he is involved with literally bounce away from his sessions and it is clear that his mantra of: “taking on roles or tasks that he believes are a challenge and that he will enjoy” underpin everything that he does.

His infectious, enthusiastic and engaging style make him extremely approachable enabling students to respond within dedicated sessions and most importantly feel confident in asking questions and where required, for help!

Open and honest dialogue through discussion create the strong bonds that he builds with so many of his students.

Time is a luxury and commodity that we all seem to have so little of. Nick has a natural ability that whatever his circumstances are he always makes himself available for those he coaches.

I have known Nick for a couple of years now, and it was clear from the start that he knew what he was talking about, both on the pitch and off.

I have been lucky enough to be coached by him one to one, but also in a team environment at my school. He had a hugely positive impact on individuals, and the team as a whole! Every time I finish a session with Nick, whether it be final preparations before a big game, or practice, I always leave feeling more positive and confident for my future games.

He is not only a genius in the cricketing environment, but he is always great fun to be around and I am very aware of how respected he is academically and musically too!

Most importantly, Nick makes sessions fun and enjoyable, which plays a huge role to helping getting the best out of people and that is something he always manages to do successfully!
